LET THE SUITCASE CARRY THE SECOND BAG
The second bag is always the one that hurts: one shoulder, twenty minutes of terminal, and it slides every time you turn. A sleeve across the back drops it onto the suitcase handle, and you walk to the gate carrying nothing at all.
-
Trolley sleeve across the back — drops over a suitcase handle so it rides instead of hanging
-
Reinforced base panel — stands rectangular on the floor rather than slumping into a sack
-
Folds to a flat pouch — roughly paperback-sized, so it packs as the just-in-case bag
-
Two sizes — medium as a personal item, large as the overflow for the drive home
-
Double-stitched handle roots — the handles run down the body rather than stopping at the rim
A packable tote with a trolley sleeve, so the overflow bag rides on the suitcase handle instead of cutting into your shoulder through a terminal.
The overflow bag that rides the handle
Totes are the natural second bag and the worst one to carry, because a loaded tote hangs off one shoulder and slides. This one has a sleeve across the back panel that drops over a suitcase handle, so from the check-in desk to the gate it rides rather than hangs. It folds into a flat pouch about the size of a paperback, comes in two sizes, and the base is a separate reinforced panel so it keeps a rectangular footprint on the floor instead of collapsing into a sack.

Questions about the tote
Which size works as an airline personal item?
The medium at roughly 22 L sits inside most personal-item allowances. The large is an overflow or beach bag, and airlines that measure will call it a second cabin bag.
Do the handles go over a shoulder?
Loaded, they sit on the shoulder rather than hanging from a hand — about 30 cm of drop. With a coat on, that is comfortable; in a t-shirt with a heavy load, the webbing edge will be felt.
Does the trolley sleeve fit all cases?
It fits the twin-tube telescopic handles used on almost every modern case. A single-tube handle works too. Very wide handle housings on some hard-shell four-wheelers are a tight fit.
