The family version of the problem is scale: six booklets, six boarding passes, a car-hire voucher, an insurance printout and a pen, all of which one person has to hold in a queue in the rain. The shell is a coated ripstop nylon with a welded-tape zip that sheds rain, the interior is six stepped passport pockets and two long sleeves, and the wrist strap means it can be held rather than pocketed. It is bulkier than a personal wallet because six passports are bulkier than one; there is no way around that.

Questions about the family wallet

Is it too big for two people?
Yes. At 24 cm with six pockets it is a family or group wallet. For two travellers the four-passport organizer is the same idea two thirds of the size and sits in a jacket pocket.

How waterproof is the zip?
It is a welded tape zip, so rain runs off the face rather than wicking along the coil. Held under a tap or dropped in water it will let go at the slider — water-resistant, not a dry bag.

Do the passports come out easily?
The pockets are stepped, so each booklet sits about a centimetre higher than the one behind. You pull the one you want by its exposed tab rather than emptying the wallet at the desk.
